Diatomaceous Earth (D.E) is a naturally occurring, soft, siliceous sedimentary rock that comes from the fossilized remains of diatoms, a type of hard-shelled algae.

When used for internal use in dogs and cats, D.E can work as a natural dewormer and control internal parasites. D.E. can also improve coats, appetites, metabolism, and digestion.

For external use, it is a natural and non-toxic means of controlling external parasites on dogs and cats, such as fleas, ticks and mosquitos. Diatomaceous earth has microscopic, sharp edges that can damage the exoskeletons of insects and lead to death.

To use diatomaceous earth externally:

  1. Lightly dust your pet's coat with the powder, covering areas where fleas and ticks are likely to hide, such as the neck, back, and tail.
  2. Use a fine powder applicator or rub it into the fur with your hands.
  3. Be cautious around the pet's face, eyes, and nose to avoid inhalation.

Diatomaceous earth can also be applied to pet bedding, carpets, and other areas where fleas and ticks might be present. Leave the powder in place for some time before vacuuming it up. This can help address not only the pests on the pet but also those in the surrounding environment.
